Through crowdfunding, Casa de Marias guarantees free psychological care for black, indigenous and peripheral women
With almost 3 years of operation, Casa is already a reference in service when it comes to listening and welcoming

Close to completing its third year of operation, the Casa de Marias (Maria’s House) space has a clear goal for closing the year 2022: to guarantee funding to be able, in 2023, to continue offering access to mental health services for black, indigenous and peripheral women, the most affected public by social inequalities, which cause a series of emotional problems.
To this end, the organization launches the crowdfunding campaign “Mental Health is priceless, it has value!“, which aims to raise funds to provide sustainability for free consultations in the first half of 2023. This includes the administrative structure, the continuity of three collaborators and the expansion of two projects that are already in progress, in addition to the creation of another three.
“We are working hard to bring horizons of hope in such difficult times. It will be very powerful, exciting and for the best reasons: to continue growing to continue caring”, says Dr. Ana Carolina Barros Silva, psychoanalyst and researcher in the mental health of the black population who idealized Casa de Marias (Maria’s House).
The importance of a place like Casa de Marias (Maria’s House)
Casa de Marias (Maria’s House) is a place of listening and welcoming. A place designed in every detail, by a qualified team of psychotherapists, to receive people who need care. A project to act as a home, to put down roots, to be an oasis in difficult times.
Coordinated by a group of black women, the space proposes a clinical practice that is not dissociated from the social field and, therefore, focuses with special care on issues involving class, gender, race and territory.
In this project, there’s professionals who work through different theoretical approaches and offer different services: individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, therapy for couples and families, psychological care aimed at children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, thematic workshops, therapeutic groups, training courses, group of studies, individual and group clinical supervision, consultations, conversation circles, among others.
How funding will impact the project in practice
If the crowdfunding goal of just over 13,000 reais is reached, Casa de Marias (Maria’s House) will provide more than a thousand services, in addition to work and income for more than 30 women in various professions, such as psychotherapists, nutritionists, social workers, lawyers, managers, communicators, among others.
“In addition to the quantitative objective, referring to the financial value and the total number of people reached, it is important to draw attention to the potency of the campaign as an amplifier of awareness of mental health as a human right”, points out Barbara Heliodora, campaign coordinator and fundraiser of Casa de Marias (Maria’s House).
