Brazilian short that won festival in Argentina continues with free and traveling screenings
The award-winning documentary about forced disappearances was made possible through a parliamentary amendment
The Brazilian film written and directed by Laís Dantas, awarded in Argentina and winner of the 12° Festival Internacional de Cinema Político, FICiP, in Buenos Aires, produced by Quiprocó Filmes and presented by Fórum Grita Baixada (FGB) and the Observatório Fluminense da Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, will be shown free of charge this Tuesday (05), in Seropédica.
The short Desova was made possible through a 2020 parliamentary amendment, authored by Marcelo Freixo, former federal deputy and current President of Embratur, and has the support of the Fundação Heinrich Böll.
The production has already been shown in several rooms in different places in Rio de Janeiro. Now, another exhibition will take place and you can’t miss it!
According to the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (URFPE), from 2016 to 2020, the Baixada Fluminense region had at least 361 cases of forced disappearances and the municipality of Rio had 417. The data is from unprecedented research carried out by Fórum Grita Baixada, in partnership with the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ).
The preliminary data were released on August 30 this year, to mark the Dia Internacional das Vítimas de Desaparecimentos Forçados [International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances], established by the United Nations (UN) in 2010.
Thus, Desova seeks to understand the dynamics of forced disappearances of people, which include State techniques for disappearing bodies, as well as the attempts of mothers and families of victims to deal with this trauma.
