International Volunteer Day: spreading solidarity
Established by UN in 1985, the date is celebrated throughout the world with the purpose of spreading good deeds
Established in 1985 by the United Nations Organization (UN), December 5th is considered International Volunteer Day. The date is celebrated all around the world and its creation aims to spread the spirit of solidarity through different actions carried out in various countries.
According to the UN, a volunteer is a young person or adult who, due to their personal interest and civic spirit, dedicates part of their time, without any remuneration, to various forms of well-being activities, whether organized or not.
Being a volunteer consists of donating your time to other people in favor of a cause in which you believe.
Below are some ways to celebrate this day
- Support an institution or social project by volunteering. Here on Lupa do Bem’s page you will find several;
- Organize a gift donation campaign with your friends and acquaintances on Children’s Day, Easter, Christmas, etc.;
- Give lectures on relevant subjects in organizations or even at your child’s school;
- Help a child or adult learn to read;
- Organize actions with your neighbors to improve the environment;
- Practice listening;
- Take a group of children for a walk;
- Read to elderly people in nursing homes and hospitals.
- Give a smile to an unknown person;
- Give hugs.
But you don’t need to limit your actions today. You can volunteer all year long!
Today is also the day to congratulate Pastoral da Criança, which turns 40 years old. The institution’s mission is to promote the development of children, preferably poor ones, from the womb to the age of six, helping their families and communities achieve their own transformation.
