Project encourages natural and sustainable consumption through fairs in Rio de Janeiro

Exposição Prateleira Colaborativa also seeks to generate income for artisanal producers

A space where handmade, organic and sustainable products from various entrepreneurs meet in one place. Exposição Prateleira Colaborativa aims to encourage the culture of natural and sustainable consumption, to the general public, and to generate income for the artisan producer and for family farming.

According to the idealizer, Marcos Andrade, the project has an innovative format. It is a collaborative work that goes against the traditional and creates innovative ways to give visibility to the products, since it is assembled in the centers of shopping malls. The strategy increases the possibility and success of sales, since the customer does not need to invest time accessing the interior of a store.

How was the project created?

Marcos Andrade realized, after participating in numerous fairs, that the producer needs a fixed place to exhibit his products, without investing time in sales, leaving his production aside – sometimes for several days. In addition, having a fixed space and the commercialization of the products in charge of experienced sellers, he understood that they would have more expressive results in generating income for this group of people.

The founder of the project has a degree in Public Relations and, since 2017, has been in the middle of Feiras de Produtos Naturais (‘Natural Products Fairs’), exhibiting for long periods, for producers and participants of family farming in shopping centers in Rio de Janeiro. He was responsible for organizing the ‘Todos & Juntos’ and ‘Isto é Muito Natural’ fairs in several malls, such as Cittá América, Recreio Shopping, Casa & Gourmet, Barra Garden, Barra World, Via Parque and Metropolitano, through the Incubadora de Projetos (‘Project Incubator’) for income generation for small producers, Mercado Muito Natural.

How does it work?

It is a rental system. In other words, the artisanal producer and the family farmer rent a shelf by paying a monthly fee on what they sell. Sales and stock can be controlled through an exclusively online system and the replenishment of your shelf is carried out whenever necessary.

Participants have access to photographers to record their products in a professional way, and the images can be used in social media posts. The event always has a Visual Merchandising professional to take care of the image of the products, as well as a digital influencer and an exclusive organizer for tastings. Weekly lectures and workshops are also offered.

Exposição Prateleira Colaborativa exhibits and sells natural, artisanal, vegan and organic products, as well as those without gluten and lactose. The event is held at Shopping Cassino Atlântico, in Copacabana, south zone of Rio.

To participate, all that is required is that the production is artisanal, organic and sustainable. Marcos says it was a challenge to get a large group together, but being able to bring artisanal producers from other states was a great victory. He ends by saying that, for the success of the project, the presence of the public is fundamental and invites everyone to participate, get to know and consume the wonderful artisanal products on display, adhering to the culture of healthy and sustainable eating.
