Rosa Reviver Institute promotes health and well-being in RJ communities
Instituto Rosa Reviver offers activities for children and adults, in addition to donating basic food baskets, clothes and wheelchairs
In 2015, Danielle Cassiano, founding nursing technician and one of the presidents of the institution, began, together with her family, to tell stories and bring games to the children in the children’s ward of the hospitals Fundão and Miguel Couto, where she worked. She thought that taking these activities into these places would ease the suffering and make the lives of the little patients happier. This action took the name of Projeto Contando Histórias Reviver (‘Project Telling Stories Revive’) and included birthday parties where all children participated within the health conditions of each one. They were simple actions, but they helped a lot in the treatment of each one.
Participating in these activities were Luiza Helena, mother of Danielle Cassiano; two nieces and about four friends. The snacks were provided by local merchants, who donated the items. One of these traders, Mário, known as Neném, would take them to the hospital, wait for the activity to end and take them back home, voluntarily, without charging anything. With the arrival of the pandemic, in 2020, they were forced to stop the activities, which was pleasurable for everyone.
Path to the creation of the Rosa Reviver Institute
One day that same year, Danielle woke up with the idea of looking for help, for support to be able to continue the work in a more diversified way, to make the project a physical reality, and to serve a greater number of people. So she asked for her mother’s opinion and help, who talked to Sérgio, a local resident and his brother, known as Bicudo. The two accepted and embraced the cause.
After searching, they found and rented a house that served the purposes well and began the new activities. And so the Rosa Reviver Institute was born, which is going for four years of existence with a lot of work. The house is located in the neighborhood of Pilar, Baixada Fluminense, Duque de Caxias.
Luiza Helena, 58, trancista (hairdresser who does braids) and director of the Rosa Reviver Institute, says that the institution was born with the objectives of practicing empathy, alleviating the daily lives of beneficiaries, providing support where necessary and possible and caring for others; focusing on women, children, and adolescents, as there is no way to serve women without welcoming their children, but she does not rule out serving men as well, such as solo parents, she ends.
Activities offered
For adults: psychology, massage therapy and physiotherapy. Services for children with disabilities continue, as well as storytelling, but new activities are added whenever there is an opportunity. Everything happens according to the availability of volunteers, who donate their time.
Rosa Reviver Institute, in addition to serving the Pilar neighborhood, extends its service to two other nearby communities, Berra Boi and Renegado. In the first, support is given through donations of food baskets, clothes, wheelchairs and hygienic chairs and others. And in the latter, an arena was built where various activities take place for local residents.
Everything the institute owns came through donations and what was missing the participants got together and bought, but it still has some needs.
Daniele, the founder talks about the work she does at the Rosa Reviver Institute “This work is very important for me and for the territory. I started many years ago, my family has a history of helping those in vulnerability, including my grandmother, Maria Silva Batista, who guided and encouraged us a lot. In fact, we have a history of doing social work here in the neighborhood, only now we are doing it through an institution, ready to help and receive help too”, she ends.
All the services offered by the institute are carried out by volunteers, who are residents of the territory, the headquarters was all set up through donations, the rent of the house is maintained by Renegado Futebol Clube, a local team, and the current presidents are Sérgio, Marcos and Danielle Cassiano.
