The Projeto Reviver Fazendo and Contando História is a storytelling and clowning project that carries out its actions in public and private hospitals in the state of Rio de Janeiro, operating in pediatric and adult hospitalization wards, where patients receive treatment.

It began in 2016, when Danielle Cassiano, participating in the context of the hospital environment as a healthcare professional, realized the need for a change in care and to adopt a more loving and humanized attitude towards child patients

Thus, together with doctors, nurses, technicians, stretcher-bearers and other professionals, she designed and implemented the Projeto Reviver Contando Histórias.

Danielle is a nursing technician at the Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto and at the Instituto de Puericultura e Pediatria Martagão Gesteira (IPPMG). She is also the creator and coordinator of the project, in addition to being a resident of the Pilar neighbourhood in Duque de Caxias, Baixada Fluminense.

The project currently operates at the Hospital Infantil Ismélia da Silveira, the Hospital Estadual Adão Pereira Nunes, in Saracuruna, Duque de Caxias and Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto, in Leblon, South Zone of Rio. It also works in orphanages and shelters that welcome children in a state of socioeconomic vulnerability, all within the municipality of Duque de Caxias.

Through storytelling, the project’s main objectives are to help the patient improve and recover; encourage the patient to reframe themselves and make them understand that through play and laughter, there is still great hope.

Danielle says that, for her, the project represents her effective participation as a citizen in the society in which we live. “As a citizen, I can participate by contributing what I have to offer. For me, it is very important, as a person, to be part of the Projeto Reviver Contando Histórias”, she says. Currently, the project serves an average of 200 people.

Did you like it? Find out how to help

If you sympathize with the initiative and want to help, there are several ways to do so. For example, if you are available to be in person at the project locations, the first step is to sign up and register.

To work as a volunteer, directly with the target audience, it is necessary to undergo training which, depending on the number of candidates, takes place once or two per year. This training aims to explain to candidates the regulations in force in the hospitals or orphanages where the activities occur so that they can act assertively and efficiently.

You can also help by donating books, coloured pencils, play dough and craft paper.

For more information, contact +55 (21) 97493-6178 and speak to the coordinator.
